COMMON SENSE SAYS: When you go against the voter’s wishes, you’re going to pay the price at the polls. Republicans commit suicide by supporting unpopular platforms, and people are smart enough to see through their bullshit.
As the Washinton Post said, “Republicans have proved at every turn that they are not merely incapable of governing but are determined to cause havoc and real harm to America — from the refusal to create a Jan. 6 commission, to their assault on voting rights, to their obstruction on raising the debt ceiling and confirming executive branch nominees“.
Nearly nine in ten (88%) voters favor allowing the federal government to negotiate for lower prices on medications, including three-fourths (77%) of Republicans, nine in ten independents (89%), and 96% of Democrats. Unfortunately, not one Republican favors this proposal. But it gets worse.
Let’s look at some recent polling:
- A Quinnipiac University poll finds 62 percent of Americans say abortion should be legal in all or most cases, 67 percent say they agree with Roe v. Wade, and 83 percent say abortion should be legal when the pregnancy is a result of rape or incest (the Texas law has no rape/incest exceptions).
- A Monmouth University poll found 62 percent of Americans say Roe should be kept as is. And 81 percent of respondents opposed the vigilante provision in the Texas law, which allows anyone to sue those who perform an abortion or help a woman get one, and be paid $10,000.
- A Marquette University Law School poll found approval of the Supreme Court falling dramatically, mostly among Democrats, since the Texas decision.
And then there is this issue. A Morning Consult/Politico poll found 65% of voters support a corporate tax hike to fund infrastructure. It also found that three-fourths of voters agree corporations should pay higher taxes while Biden proposed raising the corporate tax rate to 28%; he expressed willingness to negotiate with the GOP on its size.
When it comes to vaccine mandates, voters again side with President Biden. A majority of Americans — including suburban voters — support vaccine mandates for federal workers and private companies, according to the latest installment of the Axios/Ipsos Coronavirus Index.
Regardless of these polls, Republicans continue to disregard what voters want, and it’s this author’s opinion that it’s going to come back to bite them in the ass in the midterms.
Speaking of polls CNN, among other sites, continue to report that Biden’s poll numbers are dropping because of COVID and Afghanistan. When it comes to COVID, more Republicans refuse to get vaccinated than Democrats endangering us all. As for Afghanistan, some mistakes were made, but Trump had committed to a withdrawal date before Biden took office. The number of US troops who died in war zones rose in 2017, the first year of Donald Trump’s presidency, for the first time in six years.
The media loves to create conflicts. Voters are becoming more intelligent, and Trump supporters are getting smaller in number. Trump will be indicted, as will several other high-ranking Republicans. Republicans WILL pay the price for pandering to the wealthy corporations.
